What to do in the off season?

Hunting Whitetails in South Texas is my job and my passion.  It has consumed my life for the last 20 years.  As the owner of Picosa Paloma and actually guiding on all of our booked hunts, my own personal hunting has become obsolete. Myself and my guides, guide clients 4 days a week from Sep till February leaving my spare time to be spent with my family at home.  March through August is mostly spent maintaining the ranch and booking for the coming season.  During this off season time, I can get away and do some hunting myself but with most Texas species not in season I needed an outlet to fill my urge to hunt.  I do love to hunt international, and it is conducive to hunting during my off season but this can get pricey and I’m limited to one trip every few years.  I needed an outlet for my hunting that could be done locally or on a weekend and during the off season. I have always enjoyed fishing but have never craved for it as I do for big game hunting.  That is until I found Fly Fishing.  As an avid bow hunter I have found that Fly fishing is the bow hunting of fishing.  My new passion is fly fishing for red fish on the Texas coast.  Its a reasonable drive to the coast.  I’m able to do a day trip or a short weekend trip.  On the vast shallow flats in a technical poling skiff, sneaking up on a tailing red is where I dream to be now.  Poling in to position, closing...
